Ingatestone village’s 20mph speed limit has now been made permanent as well as substantially extended.
The original temporary limit for the High Street between Station Lane and Docklands Ave/New Road was secured by Councillor Lesley Wagland from the Government’s emergency Covid funding to help shopping streets to open up safely as Covid restrictions eased. Lesley has campaigned ever since against the limit being allowed to expire and in favour of its being extended and made permanent .
County Councillor Lesley Wagland says: "This is a big success for the village. Residents’ concerns about the scourge of speeding through the village have been listened to. Highway engineers have extended the limit as widely as technically possible and there will be improved signage. We know that fatalities and serious injuries have already been prevented by the temporary limit but I share residents frustrations at those who choose to ignore it. That’s why it’s been so important to make the limit permanent and why I’m in advanced discussions with safety teams to identify the most effective additional enforcement measures now it’s here for good."
